Forty-two years had passed since the last time the Metropolitan Manila experienced a 24-hour rainfall of 334 millimeters (mm). Saturday, September 27th, Tropical storm "Ondoy" (International name: Ketsana) slammed on-ground Philippines and brought rains of 341 mm equivalent to a month's worth of rainfall. This broke the record in June 1967 according to the Philippines' weather forecasting bureau.
I focused less about the weather the other day thinking it's just one of the heavy rains we are experiencing but when I saw the news on t.v. yesterday, I was shocked. Never did it crossed my mind that there are some places in a calamity alert.
Reports from the the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) has placed the number of fatalities from 'Ondoy' at 140 as of 4 p.m. Monday But local government units (LGUs) said that the number will still increase as rescuers reach other flooded areas. Latest reports said that the damage in property was worth P1.4 billion, this includes both houses totally and partially destroyed. Places that were greatly hit by 'Ondoy' are Region IV-A, provinces of Rizal, Laguna in Southern Luzon, National Capital Region, Region III or Central Luzon, Region II (Cagayan Valley), Region I, Pampanga due to landslide, CAR and some other parts.
Was terrified seeing all the pictures and videos on the net this day and i feel horrible for the people who experienced such taste from nature. Part of me was thankful that we're not situated in Manila but seeing those faces, those houses that were covered with water and the only visible from atop were its rooftops ---I can only pray for God to bestow upon them mercy that they will survive.
